When I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer it came as a tremendous shock since I regarded having cancer as being associated with pain, suffering and a high risk of death. In addition having a Bowel Cancer operation often meant ending up with a permanent or temporary stoma (bag) which I found it hard to come to terms with. The calm and professional way that Mr Kaushal dealt with my concerns in conjunction with the excellent Colo-Rectal Nurse specialist, Suzanne Thompson, helped me a great deal to come to terms with a very challenging mental and physical situation. The operation was successful without me needing a stoma but unfortunately after being discharged from hospital I had to go back into Furness General with a major infection and high temperature. I was informed by Mr Kaushal that the operation might be needed to be done again as the join in my colon could be infected and I mostly likely would need a Stoma. I was extremely distressed at that information , the lowest point ever mentally in my life. Mr Kaushal recognised my mental distress and did not push the point bringing in a very empathetic senior female nurse to talk me round. Fortunately a new regime of antibiotics and other drugs bought the infection under control and after two weeks I was discharged. I am feeling weak and lacking in energy and my recovery will take some time. Regarding the nursing care I would like to pay special tribute to my nurses who came from the Philippines who uniquely combined competence with compassion particularly when I was feeling unwell both mentally and physically. It may be seen as unfair to identify one nurse who stood out when I was particularly vulnerable but she was called Lovely and she lived up to her name. That is not to say that other nurses were not helpful and caring . I am now awaiting with some trepidation a consultation with the Oncology Unit to see what further treatment I may need as I learn to live with cancer. The one real negative about hospital is the awful food but I was offered a slightly better menu by the Dietician as it was clear I was not eating well, thank God for Fortijuice.

Mr Kaushal out of all my drs has continued to treat me with dignity and respect. I have complex health which sometimes feels like I'm lost on a merry go round but Mr Kaushal and the stoma nurses listen and I genuinely feel like you care. Thank you for your continued support.

I trust Mr Kaushal wholeheartedly. He was very honest in telling me how serious my illness was and informingl me that surgery had to be done that evening because of the ruptured gall bladder . He also kept my husband informed that surgery was taking place through the night. I personally think i owe my life to Mr Kaushal for diagnosing the severity of my illness and performing the surgery so rapidly. Mr Kaushal listened carefully. The doctors under Mr Kaushal were also very professional and followed his instructions both before and after my operation. Both female and male nurses were absolutely wonderful and caring at all times making my sty in hospital very comfortable. It is 9 weeks since my operation and feeling quite well and now getting my strength back slowly.
